What is CBD (Cannabidiol), and How to Get it?

What is CBD anyway?

Here is the abridged explanation. Cannabidiol (CBD) is in the chemical make-up of Cannabis/Hemp plants known as cannabinoids. There are at least 113  active cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. Sativa is the most common type of cannabis/hemp plant used for the extraction of CBD. The plants are purposely bred with high levels of cannabidiol to provide the highest quality extract. Currently, there are some clinical studies sponsored by the U.S. Government and other various organizations in an attempt to discover more significant medical benefits provided by the plant.

Ready for the scientific explanation? According to researchers at PubMed, “Cannabidiol (CBD) is a phytocannabinoid with therapeutic properties for numerous disorders exerted through molecular mechanisms that are yet to be completely identified. CBD acts in some experimental models as an anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, anti-oxidant, anti-emetic, anxiolytic and antipsychotic agent, and is, therefore, a potential medicine for the treatment of neuroinflammation, epilepsy, oxidative injury, vomiting and nausea, anxiety and schizophrenia, respectively (PubMed, 2013).”

How does CBD Help?

Cannabidiol has shown remarkable neuroprotective and neurogenic effects. It helps with relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, psychosis, seizures, spasms, and other relevant conditions. It is also known to help stop or stunt breast cancer cells from proliferation and invasion. CBD’s anti-cancer properties have quickly become the focus of investigation at academic research center across the United States and the world.

“Studies show that treatment with CBD significantly reduces primary tumor mass as well as the size and number of metastatic lung foci in two models of metastasis.” –National Institute of Health

According to the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (PubMed, 2013), Cannabidiol is excellent in the following areas:

Antiemetic Combats nausea and vomiting
Anticonvulsant Combats seizure activity
Antipsychotic Combats psychosis disorders
Anti-inflammatory Combats inflammatory disorders
Anti-oxidant Combats neurodegenerative disorders
Anti-tumoral/Anti-cancer Combats tumor and cancer cells
Anxiolytic/Anti-depressant Combats anxiety and depression disorders

How is CBD consumed/taken?

Cannabidiol extracts are consumed in three ways: Oral, Topical, and Inhalation. Let’s take a look at some of those methods.

Spray -It can be taken orally using a spray bottle. The spray bottle is considered the weakest and most unreliable method for consuming extracts. Each use yields a different amount, so proper dosing takes experience, which comes with time.

Syringe -Concentrated CBD can be placed in a syringe and taken one dose at a time. The syringe is one of the best methods for consuming the extract. The downside is no additional flavoring, so the taste may not appeal to some people.

Dabs -Another concentrated form of CBD is dabs. Cannabidiol is very effective when a dab is absorbed through the mouth. It can be placed on the inside of the cheek or under the tongue. Allow it to dissolve in your mouth for the best results, and you’re done. The dabs can also be used in dab pens and vape products rated for wax.

Tinctures -Are best taken orally and can be in made different ways. For example, CBDfx uses MCT oil (Medium-Chain Triglycerides), which are fatty acids easily broken down by the body and used as energy.

Capsules -The CBD pills have the concentrated extract, in powder form, inside easily dissolvable capsules. The pills are taken with a meal or before bedtime.

Edibles -Are CBD infused food products, usually some type of candy like gummy bears. Doses can vary depending on the creation process, but it is a tasty alternative to pills or the syringe.

Drinks -Drinks are a relatively new approach to the edible CBD  product line. This method is reminiscent of energy or vitamin boosting beverages, but unlike energy drinks, the CBD Chill Shot from CBDfx is said to have a calming effect.

Lotion -Cannabidiol can be absorbed through the skin using creams. This type of method is prevalent in the cosmetic/beauty markets. It is generally on the shelf of a beauty salon labeled as Hemp Lotion.

Vaping -This method is by far the most popular in main-stream. Using CBD oils as a vape additive takes vaping to a whole other level. As an ex-smoker who fell in love with vaping, I was excited when I found out CBD is compatible with my vaping products. So now I can enjoy the health benefits of switching to vaping, and I can appreciate the pain relief of CBD while I vape. Vape additives add to the nuances of my flavor chasing needs. The variety of dosage levels is unparalleled and answers the call of a wide range of people with different tolerance levels. I have seen dosage strengths from 3mg to 1500mg. The prices for vaping additives are pretty chaotic right now. I have seen places sell low dosages like 3mg in a 30ml bottle, for as high as $40. Fortunately, there are reputable companies like CBDfx that charge fair prices for outstanding products.

Vaping Kits -Vaping Kits can be found at different prices and setups across the industry. From one-hitter disposable vapes to elaborate devices made for daily use; The  CBD vaping method is rapidly growing as it caters to one of the fastest growing communities in the world, vapers.

Where to Buy CBD?

If you fancy a trip into town, you may find a couple of places that sell CBD products. Of course, those places may have limited options or weak doses. The best way to get high-quality CBD extracts is online. Buying the stuff online is a no-brainer because you get ALL of the options available to you anytime you want.
