The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tells us that nearly 18 out of every 100 U.S. adults aged 18 years or older (17.8 percent) smoke cigarettes today meaning, an estimated 42.1 million adults in the United States are cigarette smokers. On average, smoking causes 480,000 deaths per year in the country, which is about 1,300 deaths per day. It is expected that 8,000,000 (that’s million!) people will die in 2030 if the current smoking rate continues. Please don’t be a statistic.

Within the first 20 to 30 minutes of your last cigarette, your body is already going through the healing process. Blood pressure and heart-rate are getting back to a normal state. Your oxygen intake starts getting better, and you’ve reduced your chances of a stroke by about half! That’s just a few minutes!

Your mind starts going crazy with the knowledge that you are not going to smoke another cigarette. At this point in your smoking career, your body and mind know for a fact that it needs the cigarettes to be its version of normal. Putting out that last smoke without having a good plan will mean hard times are ahead for you. People who quit “cold turkey” end up going back to smoking. Vaping is the process of heating a liquid to generate an aerosol, commonly called a “vapor,” that the user inhales. A handheld electronic device, commonly known as a MOD, Pen, or E-Cigarette is used to heat the liquid in the device, called e-liquid or e-juice. The e-juice is made of nicotine, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerine, and flavorings. Not all e-liquids contain nicotine.

 

 

        

 

 

The Quit Smoking Now Plan

Everyone has a different story for how they quit. The plan I used to quit smoking by switching to vaping has worked for me for the past fourteen months. I have had zero cravings for a cigarette, and I can be around smokers without issues.

The day I quit smoking was when my first vape and e-juice came in the mail. Before that, I found the vaping product I knew would fit me the best, and I placed an order online. I decided the delivery date was going to be my last day as a smoker. I chose ground shipping, which was five to seven days, and started preparing myself mentally.

I was so excited to unpack my vape product that I crushed the half pack of smokes I still had and tossed them in the trash. I started with a 3mg nicotine strength e-juice and vaped as much as I used to smoke. Meaning, whenever I felt I needed a cigarette, I vaped instead. About ten hits of the vape pen gave me the same feeling I got when smoking a cigarette. From day one I vaped and didn’t look back.

1. Mentally Prepare To Quit Smoking

People are habitual and perform better at tasks with which we are comfortable. It’s no surprise your mind is the most important part of quitting any habit, especially smoking. Mentally prepare yourself to quit smoking by telling yourself “This is my last carton of cigarettes, my last pack, my last smoke.” Tell yourself you are ready to quit smoking cigarettes every time you light one up. I want you to look in the mirror every morning, point to your reflection and say “You’re done smoking.” Bookmark this page and open it up when you start to doubt yourself. What Strength Do You Need?

At the time I decided to switch to vaping I was smoking 1-2 packs in 2 to 3 days. One cigarette has about 1 to 1.5mg of Nicotine in it so if I’m consuming 10+ cigarettes a day that’s at least 10mg of Nicotine. I knew my ultimate goal was to quit smoking and get rid of the Nicotine addiction, so I purchased three bottles of e-juice. Each bottle had a different strength 12mg, 3mg, and finally 0mg. Start with the 12mg strength bottle of e-juice and work your way down to the 0mg e-juice. Here is a small table with my personal Nicotine strength recommendations. NIC table

With your first hit you want to inhale the same way, you would a cigarette and exhale the same way. Do this until you feel the familiar smoker’s high, then stop. Pick up the vape again when you feel the urge to smoke a cigarette. Rinse and repeat until you get comfortable with the new process. As for the 3mg and 0mg bottles, put them in a cool dark place until you are ready to step down to the 3mg. Shake well every day- be sure to shake your e-juice bottles every day to keep the mixture from separating. The different flavors smell and taste wonderful. Your friends and family will also enjoy being around you again because you smell good!

 3. Leap Into Battle And Get Started On The Road To Quit Smoking!

Now that you have heard my thoughts and checked out my recommendations it’s time to put everything into action. I used to think that going into a shop and buying the stuff out right was the best way but believe me when I tell you that buying these items online and waiting for them to ship to you is a much better option.

  1. I quit cold turkey 20 years ago after trying to quit for 20 years. I was a light smoker but I was a slave to smoking, nevertheless. It’s the hardest habit to break and cigarettes are jammed full of horrible addictive toxins like Benezine and not the fine quality tobacco of the 1950’s and before. If I had a cigarette habit now I would go straight to vaping as it looks like a great way to psychologically ween yourself off cigs. Good information for smokers and the 3 step plan looks like it would work well.

  2. My dad use to smoke when I was a toddler. I am glad that he ended up quitting right when I was growing up though.

    I actually tried vaping with a friend but surprisingly never got addicted to it. Is there a valid claim that vaping can be an equally bad addiction like cigarettes? How much less nicotine is in a vape that causes it to be less addicting?

      Thank you for commenting and for asking some really good questions. While it is true that Nicotine is the most addictive chemical in cigarettes, it is not the only addictive chemical. Cigarettes have carcinogens (which may be the leading cause of cancer in smokers) that are also addictive. With Vaping, the only addictive chemical is the nicotine, but the good part is you get to choose how much Nicotine is in the e-juice. In my opinion, if a person is not already a smoker then there really is no need to start vaping, unless you’re hobby is to compete against other Vapers in cloud-chasing competitions.

      Since the only addictive substance in e-juice is the Nicotine, people have a much easier time switching to vaping, and then dropping the habit. I personally don’t use Nicotine in my e-juice anymore. I also went from needing to have the vape with me at all times to not even thinking about it unless I want to vape something tasty, like JAM Monster grape or strawberry.

  3. Smoking is a terrible habit and though the industry is making billions by the year it is so sad to see the many lives that are affected by this bad habit. I believe that the time has come for persons that smoke to realize that they are doing an injustice to both them and their families. Smoking will not only cause you your health but it also can drain your wallet. These two reasons should help a person to kick this terrible habit.

      Well said and I agree with you. People DO need to quit smoking tobacco and realize a healthier life. Using Vaping to quit smoking is the only cessation method that worked for me.     Yesterday at a baby shower, I begun t smell smoke. I was kinds in shock considering it was a baby shower and all. So then I turned one way and saw men smoking. However, it was far far away from me. Point is, I was astonished in the distance that we were from one another and the way I caught the second hand smoke.
    I was not pleased.
